Reading and Writing Night 2008

6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
Get ready for fun and excitement... SOE Reading & Writing Night 2008 is this week! Pick Your Adventure, this year's event, allows students to experience two half-hour interactive sessions within fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. If you're planning to attend, please R.S.V.P. (include the number of students you're planning to bring) to Eileen McGrath.
Fiction Session (5 Sessions)
Make Your Own Comics – Create your own story in pictures using your pictures or ours. (2 sessions)
Campfire Reading – Choose from a variety of books and snuggle around our campfire.
Adventure Reading – Read "The Haunted House" and choose your own ending, if your dare!
Ghost Stories – Listen to scary stories and share your own.
Nonfiction (2 Sessions)
Pick Your Past – Pick a decade and explore pop culture through customs of that time.
What If? – Travel back in time to experience the different ways people lived during times long ago.
Poetry (2 Sessions)
Are you a poet, but you don’t know it? – Learn about the different forms of poetry, listen to delightful poems and create your own!
Family Fun (3 Sessions)
You're Gonna Listen & You're Gonna Like it! – Students will enjoy a traditional tale while parents learn strategies that readers use for listening and reading comprehension.
It's The Write Thing To Do! – Parents and students make a book together and learn techniques to let the creativity flow!
Slinky Words– Parents learn how to use simple things, such as a Slinky, to help their student identify and blend individual sounds to form words.
Storyteller (1 session)
Listen to Miriam Watson as she weaves a story that is sure to captivate.
Learn the Library
SOE Librarian Mrs. deFrance invites you to join her in the library to learn about our Fort Bend ISD Online Resources. She will demonstrate how to access these fabulous resources from your home computer. These resources are invaluable to your child's learning, as well as a great family reference!
A parent should accompany students at all times during the sessions.
